Offshore

Cat 300 is an APBA Offshore National class for 23–26 foot catamaran boats with a maximum tunnel width of 56 inches and a minimum race weight of 3,200 pounds, including the driver and throttleman. Boats must use external hydraulic steering, fixed tunnel tabs, and may use adjustable jack plates while racing. The class permits a single Mercury 300R 4.6L or Mercury 300XS 3.2L outboard, with a 6,500 RPM maximum monitored by an approved data logger. Mercury Sportmaster lower units with a 1.75:1 gear ratio are required, and propellers must be APBA-approved cast stainless steel with no forged, titanium, or CNC-finished propellers. Cat 300 boats must have an enclosed safety cockpit built by an ORC Recognized Builder and comply with APBA cockpit and window safety requirements. Class 1 is an APBA Offshore National class for high-performance catamaran race boats built by an ORC Recognized Enclosed Safety Cockpit Builder. Class 1 boats must use the Mercury Racing 1100 QC4V one-design race engine and the approved Mercury standard transmission, with strict restrictions on drivetrain, traction control, steering, and other performance modifications. Boats must meet minimum weight requirements of 11,800 pounds without adjustable tunnel tabs or 12,050 pounds with adjustable tunnel tabs, and must be between 37 and 47 feet for existing boats, while newly constructed boats must measure between 12 and 14 meters. Factory Stock 500 (Class 2) is an APBA Offshore National class for 35–40 foot catamaran boats built from an APBA-certified production mold. Boats must use twin Mercury Racing 500 Competition engines in stock factory configuration, with a minimum race weight of 6,750 pounds, a maximum beam of 11 feet 6 inches, and a maximum tunnel width of 72 inches. Engine modifications, blueprinting, altered compression, and ECU modifications are prohibited, with RPM limited to 6,800 and monitored by an approved data logger. Mercury Racing OEM #4 or #5 series propellers are required, hydraulic steering is mandatory, and transom brackets may be used but cannot be adjusted during competition. Class 200 is an APBA Offshore bracket class for high-performance V-bottom and catamaran race boats between 30 and 47 feet in length. V-bottom boats may use single, twin, or triple engines, while catamarans may use single or twin engines, with either open or canopied cockpits. Any drive system is permitted, and the class has a maximum bracket speed of 95 MPH. As with all APBA bracket classes, speeds are monitored by approved GPS equipment, and exceeding the bracket speed for more than three cumulative seconds or exceeding the bracket speed by more than 3 MPH during an event results in last-place points. Class 400 is an APBA Offshore bracket class for 26–35 foot V-bottom boats or 24–32 foot catamarans, with a maximum bracket speed of 85 MPH. Open-cockpit V-bottoms may use single or twin I/O engines or twin or triple outboards up to 300 HP each, while canopied V-bottoms may use single I/O engines or single or twin outboards up to 450 HP each. Catamarans may be open or canopied and must use single or twin outboards with a maximum of 300 HP each. All Class 400 boats must comply with APBA Offshore bracket-class GPS speed monitoring, breakout requirements, and applicable safety and technical regulations. Class 500 is an APBA Offshore bracket class for 26–30 foot open-cockpit V-bottom boats powered by a single engine. Boats may use either an inboard/outdrive or an outboard, with Bravo or Volvo-based outdrives required for I/O setups. Outboard configurations may use twin engines up to 300 HP each or a single engine up to 500 HP. The class has a maximum bracket speed of 75 MPH, with speeds monitored by approved GPS equipment and breakout penalties applying when the bracket speed limits are exceeded. Class 600 is an APBA Offshore bracket class for 22–26 foot V-bottom boats powered by a single naturally aspirated inboard or outboard engine. Inboard boats must use a Bravo or Volvo-based outdrive, and boats may have either an open or canopied cockpit. The class has a 70 MPH bracket speed and competes under the APBA bracket racing and GPS speed-monitoring requirements. Boats exceeding the class speed limits may receive last-place points, and all applicable APBA Offshore safety, equipment, licensing, and self-extrication requirements must be met. Class 700 is an APBA Offshore bracket class for 20–22 foot V-bottom boats powered by a single outboard with a maximum factory-rated horsepower of 300 HP. Boats may have an open or canopied cockpit and must use hydraulic or dual-cable steering. The class has a 60 MPH bracket speed and competes on an abbreviated 20–24 mile course. Driver and throttleman duties are separate, with the driver responsible for navigation and the throttleman responsible for throttle operation. APBA-approved GPS equipment is used for speed monitoring, and boats exceeding the class speed limits may receive last-place points. Mod V is an APBA Offshore National class for 24–30 foot V-bottom boats powered by a single inboard or outboard engine. Boats may have an open or canopied cockpit and must comply with specific APBA requirements for hull design, engine configuration, drivetrain, steering, and safety equipment. The class is designed around modified performance setups while maintaining defined technical limits on engine and drivetrain components, with all boats required to meet APBA Offshore safety and technical regulations. Super Cat is an APBA Offshore National class for 35–42 foot catamaran boats with a maximum 12-foot beam and 66-inch tunnel width. Boats must use two inboard engines and have a minimum race weight of 9,500 pounds. All boats require a single, centerline enclosed canopy seating two, a bottom escape hatch, and an APBA-recognized enclosed safety cockpit. Fuel is limited to gasoline with a maximum 93-octane rating, and fuel additives are prohibited. APBA-approved stainless-steel cast propellers are required, with modifications permitted within the class rules. Super Stock is an APBA Offshore National class for 28–32 foot catamaran boats with a maximum 63-inch tunnel width and a minimum race weight of 4,900 pounds. Boats must use a single centerline canopy seating two people side-by-side and be built by an APBA-recognized enclosed safety cockpit builder. The class uses twin Mercury 300XS or Mercury 300R outboard engines, with the powerheads required to remain stock and a maximum engine speed of 6,500 RPM. Adjustable trim tabs are permitted, while tunnel tabs must be fixed and adjustable motor brackets cannot be moved while racing. Super Vee is an APBA Offshore National class for 35–46 foot twin-engine monohull boats with a maximum 9-foot 3-inch beam and a minimum race weight of 9,000 pounds. Boats must use full side-by-side safety canopies and engines with a maximum displacement of 572 cubic inches and a maximum compression ratio of 9.5:1. The class uses naturally aspirated, carbureted engines, with a maximum 6,600 RPM limit monitored by an approved G2X data logger. Approved Mercury, Arneson, and Arneson-type drives are permitted, along with approved cast stainless-steel propellers. All boats must comply with APBA Offshore safety and technical requirements.
